The following are the hotels used on the Inland and Coastal Gipuzkoa route. All are comfortable and have charm and a warm welcome is guaranteed, although the best rooms tend to be doubles which can also used as single rooms for a supplement. Twin rooms can also be arranged at all the accommodation listed. On the last night hikers can choose between the clifftop working farmhouse of Santa Klara above Zumaia or the more luxurious Talasoterapia-Zelai Hotel&Spa right on the beach just a short walk from the flysch and town centre.
Casa Rural Aranburu, Aizarna
A restored, beautifully furnished 16th century farmhouse just a stone’s throw from the pretty village square of Aizarna. 6 comfortable, tastefully-decorated double rooms with ensuite facilities, TV and wifi. The hotel has a large front garden which is the perfect place to relax after a day’s hiking. Breakfast and dinner are served in the cosy, traditionally-furnished restaurant on the ground floor, adjacent to which there is also a bar run by the hotel that is much frequented by locals.
Casa Rural Goikola, Lastur
This rural accommodation is located in the heart of the beautiful unspolit Lastur valley, just 5 min walk from the enchanting hamlet of Lastur with its working water mill and chapel. The main building is a tastefully restored old stone house with 6 nicely furnished double/twin rooms with communal kitchen and living room/reading area. There is a terrace and garden for exclusive use by guests while breakfast and dinner are served in a separate building beside the main house that has also been delightfully restored. Adjacent to this is the textile workshop where the owner does her weaving and can show/teach guests the traditional weaving process. Short courses in making (and then eating!) delicious talo corn bread at the water mill and also horse riding around Lastur can be arranged.
Casa Rural Arriola Txiki, Deba area
A beautifully-restored farmhouse in Arriola, a hilltop hamlet directly above the coastal town of Deba. The guest house has 6 pleasant double/twin rooms with ensuite facilities and wifi, some with sea views. Downstairs there is a very comfortable, spacious living room area with library and TV, and the premises boasts a magnificent terrace overlooking the sea where breakfast and dinner can be served apart from in the house itself, as well as a large garden with hammocks for use by guests.
Casa Rural Santa Klara, Zumaia
A working farmhouse perched high on the clifftops above the bustling fishing port of Zumaia with splendid views over the town and coast, including the beach used as a film set for Game of Thrones. The guest house has 6 tastefully furnished comfortable double/twin rooms with ensuite facilities and wifi, some with sea views, and a breakfast room downstairs. Dinner is not served at the guest house but the owners operate a free shuttle service in the evenings to and from Zumaia (otherwise a 15-20 min walk downhill) where there are many dining options. Bearing in mind the number of attractions in the immediate vicinity, this guest house makes a particuarly suitable place for an extended stay at the end of the 4-day self-guided walk, time permitting.
Talasoterapia-Zelai Hotel&Spa, Zumaia
This modern hotel and spa is located directly above Itzurun beach, used recently as a film set for Game of Thrones and right on the flysch. It is also just a few minutes’ walk from the bustling pintxo bars and fishing harbour of Zumaia. The hotel itself has 26 ensuite rooms with air con, wi fi and large TV screen. Some rooms have sea views and bath robes are included for use in the hotel’s spa. There is also a great sun terrace directly overlooking the beach. A buffet breakfast is included, and hikers can choose to have dinner at the hotel or otherwise dine in one of several fine restaurants or at the famed local pintxo bars in town, . Guests can arrange a 90 minute circuit in the hotel’s spa and/or a range of individual treatments/massages. PLEASE NOTE: this accommodation requires a minimum 2 nights’ booking in July and August.
