Landscapes of the Basque Country of Spain and France by Philip Cooper, published by Sunflower Guides, is a comprehensive guide to the region featuring a variety of car tours and walks that cover all outstanding areas of natural beauty, some well off the beaten track even for the locals! Now in its second edition, this remains the only book published in English that covers all corners of the Basque Country in a single volume: the 3 provinces of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Araba), the 3 provinces in the French Basque Country (Iparralde) and Navarra.
The walks described in the guide book have been designed to link up with the car tours, and the trailheads for many of the walks, ranging from a short 1 or 2 stroll along cliff tops to 6-7 hour loops through the region’s mountain ranges. Many of the walks can also be accessed by public transport. Full instructions are given in English so that visitors can enjoy their own self-guided walks by way of a complement to others offered on this website. The guide features the following:
